Marit Stiles in London and Ingersoll to talk about Doug Ford’s jobs disaster

LONDON — Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles is in both London and Ingersoll today, keeping up the pressure on Doug Ford as job losses continue to hit communities across southwestern Ontario.

Stiles is meeting with local workers, labour leaders, and community organizations after production at GM’s CAMI plant came to a halt, leaving 1,200 workers and their families without paycheques and a community struggling to find stability.

“When the CAMI plant reopened in 2022, Doug Ford was there smiling for the cameras, bragging about how he was bringing back the auto sector, and putting on a real grand show” said Stiles. “Now 1,200 people are out of work and the Premier’s nowhere to be found. He’s all photo ops, no plan.”

Now, families in Ingersoll and across southwestern Ontario are left wondering what’s next. How they’ll find steady work and keep their communities strong in the face of more layoffs and closures.

“Doug Ford is quick to cut ribbons, but when jobs disappear, he disappears too,” said Stiles. “People are worried about their futures and about how they’ll pay their bills, keep their homes, and stay in their communities. They deserve a government that stands up for them, not one that lets good jobs slip away.”

While in the region, Stiles will meet with the Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board, Unifor Local 88, and the Pillar Nonprofit Network to discuss how to protect Ontario jobs and support workers affected by layoffs.

“The Ontario NDP will keep fighting to strengthen Ontario by protecting jobs, creating opportunity, and lowering costs for working people,” said Stiles.
